Saratoga Racers Win Back and Forth Game over Herkimer Originials

After seven lead changes, Saratoga Racers emerged victorious over Herkimer Originals, 158-130, on Sunday at Oppenheim-Ephratah Saint Johnsville Central Junior / Senior High School to improve to 3-0 against Herkimer this season and improve to 6-3 on the season. Joey Harden scored 31 points to lead Saratoga Racers. Saratoga Racers went on a 12-3 run to start the game. Trailing 20-18, Saratoga Racers went on a 10-point run to take the lead. Saratoga Racers got out to a 76-64 lead at halftime before closing out the victory. The fourth quarter was the best for Saratoga Racers as they outscored Herkimer 47-33. Juwan Malone scored 18 points in the quarter. Saratoga Racers scored at will in the paint. They went 39-65 on twos. Malone, Isaiah Grandison, Harden, Tobias Holmes, Rj Rosa, and Anthony Mitchell each hit multiple three-pointers for Saratoga Racers. The team shot 22-49 (45%) from beyond the arc. Saratoga Racers rebounded the ball well, collecting 48 rebounds. Grandison led the team with nine rebounds. Saratoga Racers passed the ball well with 24 assists on 61 made baskets. Rosa led the team with five assists. Saratoga Racers's ball pressure forced 21 steals in the game. Holmes led the team with four steals. Rosa (26 points), Malone (24 points), Grandison (24 points), Keishaun Wheelings (18 points), Holmes (13 points), Donovan Williams (10 points), Mitchell (8 points), and Cam Thomas (5 points) helped out Saratoga Racers as well. Ethan Powell led Herkimer Originals in scoring with 34 points. Zachary Sawyer 30 points and Josh Gregory 24 points also had big days for the Originals. Saratoga Racers play at home on Saturday at 6:00pm against Boston Sharks in their next home game. This will be a very special game for the Racers, will a special pre-game ceremony to honor long time Mechanicville and Cohoes Head-Coach Joe Loudis, with the naming of our home court to Joe Loudis Court. Coach Loudis was an assistant coach at Schenectady High School for his son, Eric, and coached multiple players that are currently Saratoga Racers. Saratoga will follow-up their special game on Saturday with a Sunday Afternoon game (3:00pm) against the Rochester Royal Ballers.
