Press Release
The Riverside Center Gymnasium is thrilled to announce the official dedication of the Joe Loudis Court on Saturday, January 24th, in a tribute to one of the Capital Region's most legendary basketball figures. This special ceremony will immediately precede the highly anticipated ABA league tip-off between the Saratoga Racers and the Boston Sharks. Join us as we celebrate a man whose passion for the game inspired generations, transforming a simple gymnasium floor into a lasting symbol of excellence and teamwork. Joe Loudis, born in Schenectady in 1942 and a cherished son of the Capital Region, left an indelible mark on high school basketball over six remarkable decades. From his early triumphs as a standout second baseman on the 1954 Schenectady Little League World Series champions to his storied coaching career at Cohoes and Mechanicville High Schools—where he amassed a record-setting 428 wins—he embodied the grit and grace of a true competitor. Inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Mechanicville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018, Coach Loudis wasn't just about victories; he was a mentor who instilled values of resilience and character in countless young athletes, making him a timeless icon in our local sports heritage. We invited the entire community—former players, families, fellow coaches, and basketball enthusiasts—to gather at Riverside Center Gymnasium for this special tribute. Share stories, reflections, and applause as we honor Joe's legacy.
